Hi, I’m Salsa
A future educator passionate about shaping minds through education, exploring social and cultural issues, and delving into the wonders of physics.
I am a future educator, a passionate communicator, and a continuously growing leader. Currently, I am pursuing my studies at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia, majoring in Physics Education. My journey has been shaped by teaching experiences, public relations, and leadership in various organizations, allowing me to develop strong communication, event management, and organizational skills.
As a SEA-Teacher delegate in Thailand, I gained valuable international teaching experience, enhancing my adaptability and broadening my perspective on global education, cross-cultural communication, and pedagogical expertise. Immersing myself in a new educational environment challenged me to refine my teaching strategies, foster student engagement, and implement creative learning methods tailored to diverse student needs. I had the opportunity to collaborate with local educators, exchange ideas on effective teaching approaches, and witness firsthand how different educational systems operate. These experiences not only enriched my teaching methodology but also deepened my appreciation for cultural diversity in education.
Teaching Practice Result
1. Improvement in Teaching Skills
During my participation in the SEA-Teacher Pilot Project Batch 4 at Demonstration School Mo Din Daeng, I experienced significant improvement in my teaching skills. The observation period at the beginning of the program helped me understand students' characteristics, classroom atmosphere, and the teaching strategies used by teachers. After preparing and discussing my lesson plans with my advisor, I was able to implement more effective teaching strategies within the given time. Regular evaluation and reflection after each teaching session allowed me to improve my approach, making the lessons more engaging and interactive for students.
2. Adapting to Different Learning Systems
One of the biggest challenges I faced was the difference in lesson duration between Thailand and Indonesia. I had to adjust my lesson plan to ensure the material was delivered efficiently within the available time. Additionally, Thailand’s education system places more emphasis on discussion and active student participation, requiring me to be more flexible in applying teaching methods that encourage interaction.
3. Enhancing English Communication Skills
Since English was the main language of instruction in this program, it became a crucial tool for teaching and interacting with students and fellow teachers. At first, I felt nervous while teaching in English, but over time, I gained confidence in delivering lessons. Although there were some communication challenges since English was not the first language for me, the students, or the teachers, we made sure to clarify instructions and engage in open discussions to enhance understanding.
4. Teaching Experience in Grade 10
When teaching Grade 10 on the topic of Gravity, I encountered challenges in explaining abstract concepts in a way that was interesting for students. To address this, I used various teaching methods, including simple demonstrations and group discussions, to help students grasp the material better. With the guidance of my advisor and subject teachers, I was able to develop more effective teaching strategies and increase student engagement in the learning process.
5. Cultural Understanding and International Relations
Beyond academics, this experience broadened my cultural knowledge about Thailand. I learned a lot about local customs, social systems, and core values such as kindness, discipline, and respect for teachers. The supportive school environment, positive energy from fellow delegates, and assistance from the university made this experience not only about teaching practice but also a valuable opportunity to build strong connections and create meaningful memories.
6. Evaluation and Reflection
After every teaching session, I reflected with my advisor to evaluate my strengths and areas for improvement in the teaching process. This helped me enhance my teaching skills for future sessions. Additionally, the weekly reports organized by the university allowed me to document my progress and challenges throughout the program.
Joining the SEA-Teacher Pilot Project Batch 4 was an invaluable experience for me. It not only helped me improve my teaching skills and English proficiency but also provided insights into Thailand’s education system and broadened my perspective on global education. I hope to apply the knowledge and skills I have gained to enhance my professionalism as a future educator. This program also serves as a strategic step in improving education quality through cross-country collaboration, reinforcing the importance of flexibility, innovation, and cultural diversity in the field of education.
